The RSPCA is urging pet owners to keep their animals cool this summer especially as temperatures are expected to be very high this weekend.
One obvious instruction to dog owners is to not abandon their pets in cars, conservatories or caravans whilst they enjoy the sunshine.
In June last year two dogs died after being left in a Police car on one of the hottest days of the year.
Some of the signs that your dog could be suffering from heat stroke are excessive panting, overly red or purple gums, a rapid pulse, lack of co-ordination, reluctance or inability to rise after collapsing.
Please look after your dog this summer.

John Travolta’s dogs ‘die in airport accident’
I read today that John Travolta’s pet dogs have reportedly been killed in an airport accident in the US.
Apparently the dogs were being taken for a walk after a flight with the Travolta family when a service vehicle at Bangor International Airport, Maine, accidently struck the two family pets.
The incident came to light after the City’s daily newspaper discovered an email that had been sent to members of the City council describing the incident.
The airport has since sent flowers and cards to the Travolta family expressing their deepest sympathies and apologising for the incident.
Miracle Dog Journey
Today I read a story about a dog that managed to cling to the front of a car for 60 miles between Belfast Coleraine.
The driver thought he’d heard a thud part way through his journey but on checking his mirrors and not seeing anything, continued his journey. It was when he reached his destination and then heard the sound of barking from the front of the car he new what had happened.
Although unhurt after the ordeal the dog was considerably grumpy and therefore gained the nickname Father Jack, named after the tetchy priest in the sitcom Father Ted.
Alsatian experience
For years my family had cats as I was growing up but, for whatever reason I think my father always wanted to have a dog. However, for years we continued to have cats until we moved to the house my parents currently live in.
Shortly after the cats passed away my parent were talked into having an Alsatian puppy. Unfortunately this experience didn’t go well. The Alsatian soiled the entire house (well almost) and was generally nasty. On top of that they realised that you have to take them for walks and clean up after them.
They have since never had another dog, although we do like them a lot.
Beckhams pet fashion
We all now what fashion disasters David Beckham has had over the years, such as wearing a dress!
Well now this trend has passed to Coco, the Beckham’s British bull terrier. The poor eight month old puppy was spotted with bright pink claws whilst being walked in San Fernando Valley skate park, Los Angeles.
It was speculated that David’s and Victoria’s children had done this to the pooch using their mums nail polish.
However, reports have later claimed that the pink nails were actually a fashion accessory to help protect the dogs claws.
Which opinion do you believe? Answers on a postcard …………
